The two latest books to be published by Matthew both come through Random House and are vastly different in style. One is a memoir of what it’s really like to be a chef in Australia (and then be a big city reviewer dealing with the same coked up psychos that you used to work with). Titled Never Order Chicken on a Monday, it’s a tongue in cheek title for a book that reveres and pokes fun at the world of fine dining, from the dag’s point of view.

Also published in 2007 was The Weekend Cook, a lush, whimsical journey through the way we spend our days off. With nearly 100 recipes and Alan Benson’s inspiring photography, it’s a gorgeous recipe book full of stuff you really want to eat - and yes, you can cook it at home.

In 2006, Matthew republished an updated version of Kitchen Basics, the award-winning how-to book first published in 2000. It acts like a friend in the kitchen, full of all the stuff you need to know when you start cooking, or when you forgot one of the essentials. From crisp meringues to chocolate sauce to roasting times and tips to get excellent crackling. It’s published by Fairfax. To purchase a copy visit gleebooks

Matthew wrote the Lonely Planet World Food Guide to Italy, the pocket-sized guide that breaks the country down into regional specialties. While sold as a travel guide, the Italy World Food Guide - like all the books in this series - is a fantastic reference tool too.
Matthew’s previous publications include the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide (five years as editor) and the now out of print Weekend Fare.
Matthew is currently working on his next title, to be published through Murdoch Books.
